Free guide for families and carers

Choosing a personal alarm? Ask these 3 questions first.

Most families buy a personal alarm after a scare, often in a hurry. These questions work for any device or service, ours included.

  • 1

Who gets the SOS, and who will actually respond?

Some alarms ring a 24/7 monitoring centre. Others call family or friends you choose. It depends on who is nearby and able to answer, day and night.

  • 2

What will it really cost over the first year?

The device price is only part of it. Plans, a SIM or mobile service, connection fees and replacements all add up.

  • 3

Can you cancel, and what happens if needs change?

A hospital stay, a move into care or a different device. A lock-in contract can leave you paying for something no one uses.

Which personal alarm suits them?

Answer six quick questions and we will show you what to look for, what the first year really costs, and whether one of our devices fits. If it does not, we will say so.

Also worth checking, whichever alarm you choose

  • Does it work away from home, or only near a base unit?
  • Is there good mobile coverage where they live and go?
  • How long does the battery last, and who reminds them to charge it?
  • How do fall alerts work, and what happens after a false alarm?
  • Will they actually wear it? Comfort and looks matter.
  • Funding: talk to their plan manager, support coordinator, OT or aged care provider before buying.
