This statement applies to all Saf O’ Me GPS tracking devices and the Saf O’ Me mobile app. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, and Warranty Policy.
Saf O’ Me devices use three location methods — GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile cell towers — selected automatically in order of availability and precision. The Saf O’ Me app always displays which method is currently active, so caregivers can understand the confidence level of the location shown at any time.
Location data is transmitted to our servers continuously as a core safety feature and is used to power real-time tracking, SOS alerts, and Safezone notifications. For full details on how location data is collected, stored, and shared, see our Privacy Policy at https://safome.au/privacy.
The table below sets out each location method, when it is used, and the typical accuracy range:
| Method | When it is Used | Accuracy |
|---|---|---|
| ● GPS | Outdoors with a clear view of the sky. The device locks onto GPS satellites to pinpoint location. | Highest |
| ● Wi-Fi — High | GPS is limited — indoors or dense urban areas with strong Wi-Fi networks nearby. | ~200 m |
| ● Wi-Fi — Standard | Fewer or weaker Wi-Fi networks in range. Location estimate is slightly broader. | ~250 m |
| ● Cell Tower — High | GPS and Wi-Fi are unavailable. Location estimated from the nearest mobile tower with good signal. | ~300 m |
| ● Cell Tower — Low Signal | Remote or rural areas with limited mobile coverage. Device falls back to the nearest available tower, which may be further away. | 500 – 800 m |
* Accuracy figures are typical ranges under standard conditions. Actual accuracy may vary depending on the factors described in Section 3 below. All accuracy figures refer to the radius within which the device’s true location is likely to fall.
The Saf O’ Me app displays a location method indicator alongside the device’s position on the map. The indicators correspond to the following methods and accuracy levels:
The device has acquired a GPS satellite fix. This is the most accurate location available. Best outdoors with a clear view of the sky.
The device is using nearby Wi-Fi networks to estimate location. GPS is unavailable or not yet acquired. Typical accuracy within approximately 200 metres.
Fewer or weaker Wi-Fi networks are available in range. Location estimate is slightly broader than Wifi_High. Typical accuracy within approximately 250 metres.
GPS and Wi-Fi are unavailable. Location is estimated from the nearest mobile cell tower with a good signal. Typical accuracy within approximately 300 metres.
The device is in a remote or rural area with limited mobile coverage. Location falls back to the nearest available tower, which may be significantly further away. Typical accuracy within 500 to 800 metres. This indicator is only shown when the device has low cell signal and limited tower availability in the area.
A number of factors can affect the accuracy and availability of location data beyond the method used. Caregivers should be aware of the following
| Factor | How it Affects Location |
|---|---|
| Buildings and Structures | Tall buildings, tunnels, and underground areas block GPS satellite signals. The device automatically falls back to Wi-Fi or cell tower positioning in these environments. |
| Indoor Environments | GPS signals do not reliably penetrate buildings. Indoors, the device uses nearby Wi-Fi networks or cell towers. Accuracy is reduced and the displayed location may show the building entrance or nearest external reference point. |
| Rural and Remote Areas | Areas with low mobile tower density result in cell tower fallback with the lowest accuracy (500–800 m). In areas with no mobile coverage, location updates cannot be transmitted until coverage is restored. |
| Low Battery | When the device battery is low, location update frequency may reduce to preserve power. The last known location is displayed in the app until the next update is received. |
| Update Delay | There may be a short delay between the device moving and the updated location appearing in the app. This is normal and depends on network conditions and the configured update interval. |
| Network Outages | If the mobile network is temporarily unavailable, location data is buffered on the device and transmitted once connectivity is restored. The app will indicate when the last successful update was received. |
When an SOS alert is triggered — either by pressing the SOS button or through automatic fall detection — the device immediately transmits its current location to designated emergency contacts using whichever location method is available at that moment.
Location data included in SOS alerts reflects the device’s position at the time the alert is triggered. If the device user has moved after triggering SOS, the location in the alert may not reflect their current position. Emergency contacts should use the live tracking view in the app alongside the alert location to monitor movement in real time.
This disclaimer applies to all uses of the Saf O’ Me device and app and is incorporated into our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
Saf O’ Me is NOT a substitute for calling emergency services. In any life-threatening situation, call 000 immediately. Do not wait for a device alert or caregiver response.
The following is a plain-text version of this statement ready for use on the Saf O’ Me website, support page, or product listing:
Saf O’ Me uses three location methods — GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile cell towers — automatically selected in order of accuracy. The app always shows which method is active.
What Can Affect Accuracy: Buildings and structures · Rural areas with low tower density · Low battery reducing update frequency · Short delays between movement and location updates · Temporary network outages
Important: Saf O’ Me is an assistive safety tool. Location accuracy cannot be guaranteed in all environments. Always contact emergency services (000) directly in any life-threatening situation and do not rely solely on the displayed location.
